Cardio Challenge #3- Bike

Whether it be a stationary bike or cycling outdoors, biking is an excellent and fun cardiovascular challenge.  Find a partner and go on a bike ride or find a scenic route to enjoy. Remember to challenge your cardiovascular energy systems by either prolonging the duration if the intensity is mild, or to do quick intervals if you are planning on pushing yourself. Cycling is a great leg workout as well as it builds up the quadriceps and gastrocnemius.

Tips:
  • Engage your core by drawing your belly button in and up
  • Stay hydrated, be sure to drink plenty of water 30 mins prior to exercise
  • Stay safe- As it is winter we are expecting snow so plan your bike trip during the day time on clear roads. If you are planning on riding during the later hours be sure that you are wearing reflective clothing and that your bike is equipped with reflectors as well.
  • Stationary bikes are great too! Take it up a notch by standing during quick intervals.
